Share the love :)

Broccoli pizza crust is a delicious, low-carb, and gluten-free alternative to traditional pizza dough. It’s also a great way to sneak in extra veggies!

Choosing a broccoli pizza crust has several perks, especially if you're looking to make healthier choices or try something new. Here are some of the main benefits:

Lower in Carbs

Broccoli crusts are a great option for those following low-carb or ketogenic diets. Since traditional pizza crust is high in carbs, substituting it with broccoli helps keep carb intake low.

Gluten-Free Alternative

Broccoli crust is naturally gluten-free, making it ideal for those with gluten sensitivities or celiac disease.

Nutrient Boost

Broccoli is rich in fiber, vitamins (especially vitamin C, K, and folate), and minerals like potassium. It also provides a good amount of antioxidants, which support overall health.

Higher Fiber Content

The fiber in broccoli helps keep you feeling full for longer and supports digestion. Compared to traditional flour crusts, a broccoli crust can be more satisfying without being as heavy.

Low-Calorie Option

Broccoli pizza crust is typically lower in calories than traditional pizza crust, so it can be a good choice if you’re watching your calorie intake.

Mild Flavor that Adapts to Toppings

Broccoli has a mild, slightly sweet taste that pairs well with various toppings without overpowering the flavors, making it a versatile base for different types of pizza.

Easy to Make at Home

Making a broccoli crust at home is relatively simple and allows you to customize the texture and flavor by adjusting ingredients like cheese and spices.

Whether you’re looking for a healthier alternative or just want to try a new twist on pizza, broccoli crust is a tasty, nutrient-dense option!

Broccoli pizza crust is a delicious, low-carb, and gluten-free alternative to traditional pizza dough. It’s also a great way to sneak in extra veggies!

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of broccoli (about 3–4 cups of florets)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional for extra flavor)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

    1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
    2. Prepare Broccoli: Cut the broccoli into florets and blend in a food processor until it has a fine, rice-like texture. You can also use pre-riced broccoli if available.
    3. Microwave the Broccoli Rice: Transfer the broccoli rice to a microwave-safe bowl, cover, and microwave for about 3–4 minutes until soft. Allow it to cool slightly, then place it in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out as much moisture as possible. This step is important for achieving a crispy crust.
    4. Mix Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the broccoli rice, egg, mozzarella, Parmesan (if using), garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well until it forms a dough-like consistency.
    5. Form the Crust: Place the mixture on your prepared baking sheet and press it into a round or rectangular crust about ¼ inch thick.
    6. Bake the Crust: Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is firm.
    7. Add Toppings and Bake Again: Add your favorite pizza toppings, such as sauce, more cheese, and veggies. Return to the oven for another 8–10 minutes, until the cheese melts and toppings are heated.
